Claire WhiteClaire White is a doctoral student at Clare College, Cambridge. Her PhDthesis, entitled 'Work and Leisure in French Culture, 1869-1901', is situated at the juncture between the material history of mass labour in late nineteenth-century France and the history of the work of art. The project examines the representation of labour, leisure and sloth in the works of Émile Zola, Jules Laforgue, Gustave Flaubert, and Impressionist painting. |
